For previous tutorials check out the playlist on my channel uk.youtube.com Quite a few people have asked how I do the vids with ‘2′ of me on screen. If you don’t have or know how to green screen here is a really simple way to split screen using Vegas 6. There are many ways to do this but to start, this is simple and quick ☺ Let me know if you found this useful and I might do some more FX tutorials. Screen Capture using Windows Media Encoder 9 (a free program ☺)

Dream Theater Tribute Split Screen Covers Lifting Shadows Off a Dream Album: Awake The first of a series of covers of a project called ‘Split Screen Covers’ my friends and I are putting together. An online tribute to Dream Theater. For suggestions, comments or whatever, feel free to email us. splitscreencovers@gmail.com ╟►SPLIT SCREEN COVERS Song #1 – “Lifting Shadows Off a Dream” Song #2 – “Metropolis – Part 1″ The ideia behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers. Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won’t necessarily be the same for every song. We will probably have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion. How those it work? Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me. I then put the audio together and mix it. Since I’m fairly new to mixing, this has been a great exercise for me. I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely. I AB my mix with the original song but I don’t get too crazy about it. It’s difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there. When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyones videos to it. After a bit of

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus: Your Guardian Angel – STRING TRIO COVER (3 way split screen)

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus: Your Guardian Angel – STRING TRIO COVER (1 violin, 2 violas) This is the 10th video in my continuing series of classicalized popular music. The song was requested by my most special friend Pamela. I originally played a short version of this as a violin solo to surprise her for valentines day knowing she likes the song, she sings it to me frequently :) Then I decided to make it into a trio you see in this video. The original video of the song may be seen here: www.youtube.com This performance is the 5th of my split screen videos where I play with myself, and the 1st where I play a trio with myself. To do this video, I listened to the original song and by ear wrote out a sheet music score, then arranged it as a trio for violin and 2 violas, and then performed it. I recorded each part separately, first the violas, then the violin. I was able to sync up and mix the 3 parts on my computer with a sound wave editor. To do the split screen, I used AviSynth (scripting based video editing and effects utility) in combination with VirtualDubMod (a free video editing utility) to sync up and render the two videos into a single split screen video. The sound then had to be synced to the 3 videos playing simultaneously and properly mixed. My AviSynth script for this video: violin = crop(AVISource(”K:\RedJump_GuardianAngel\Movie_00_(d.09-03-03_14-23.00).avi”),176,0,-134,0) viola1 = crop(AVISource(”K:\RedJump_GuardianAngel\Movie_01_(d.09-03-02_19-16.00_).avi”),114,60

This video is featured in a commercial promoting the 52nd Grammy Awards on CBS … also seen here: www.youtube.com Lady GaGa : Poker Face – VIOLA TRIO COVER (split screen) * “HQ” — Make sure you watch in “High Quality” This is the 11th video in my continuing series of classicalized popular music. The song was requested by so many people its hard to point the finger at any one. The original video of the song may be seen here: www.youtube.com This performance is the 6th of my split screen videos where I play with myself, and the 2nd where I play a trio with myself. It’s all about the viola this time, just like Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.6, a concerto for strings, yet it features no violin parts. I steal my ideas from the masters of course. To do this video, I listened to the original song and by ear wrote out a sheet music score, then arranged it as a trio for 3 violas, and then performed it. I recorded each part separately. My AviSynth script for this video: viola1 = crop(AVISource(”N:\PokerFace\VIOLA_1.avi”),256,0,-60,0) viola2 = crop(AVISource(”N:\PokerFace\VIOLA_2.avi

Lady GaGa : Paparazzi – STRING TRIO COVER (split screen)

Lady GaGa : Paparazzi – STRING TRIO COVER (split screen) This is the 13th video in my continuing series of classicalized popular music. I simply play whatever music (if any) is there so that you can see it without all the distractions such as lyrics, electronic sounds, unnatural instruments, exaggerated beat machinery, etc. that have nothing to do with pure music — the melody, harmony, and rhythm. All 13 of my covers are full length, and are in both the exact same key and tempo as the originals. The original video of the song may be seen here: www.youtube.com To do this video, I listened to the original song and by ear wrote out a sheet music score, then arranged it as a trio for 2 violins and viola, and then performed it. I recorded each part separately. I was able to sync up and mix the 3 parts on my computer with the free sound wave editor, Audacity. To do the split screen, I used AviSynth (scripting based video editing and effects utility) in combination with VirtualDubMod (a free video editing utility) to sync up and render the two videos into a single split screen video. The sound then had to be synced to the 3 videos playing simultaneously and properly mixed. My AviSynth script for this video: violin1 = DirectShowSource(”d.09-11-20_17-01.00.avi”).TDeint().BicubicResize(640480).Trim(2239,8519,true).Crop(236,0,-80,0) violin2 = DirectShowSource(”d.09-11-20_17-37.00.avi”).TDeint().BicubicResize(640480).Trim(1529,7828,true).Crop(152,0,-176,0) viola = DirectShowSource
