Quiet, easy 1080p output over HDMI with 7.1 surround, DX 11, Small card, low power usage, no additional power connector needed

Not for serious gaming, but still far better than integrated graphics Other

Great card for a HTPC or anyone who isn’t into gaming. DX 11 support and latest HDMI standards, including Blu-ray support too.

This is a reasonable card, but there are two things you’ll want to take note of:

There’s a variation of this card (HD-545X-ZN) which uses DDR2 (vs DDR3), and thus will be slower. That’s what this review entails, but most items describe both versions.

If you’re running a 32bit version of Windows, you might want to go with the 512mb version as the pipes won’t be fast enough to properly use all 1gb, and it really can be a negative since it cuts into your 4gb total memory limit. (That is if you actually want 3gb+ RAM to use, which depending on your needs may not be at all necessary.)

Freestone test result (new version) was 65. So it’s not a (current) gaming card. (No doubt the DDR3 will be slightly faster.) Having said that, if your gaming is casual (or at all retro/not too demanding) you’re covered in a way integrated graphics won’t. Also, it comes with a HDMI/DVI low profile bracket which is nice.

HDMI works properly (and is one of the reasons I got it), and is currently what I use on a Asus 25.5″ widescreen.

Final verdict: 3 – Windows 32bit, 4 Windows 64bit. Docked -1 on Win32 because of the memory waste, & docked -1 in general because of the price vs value against other cards in roughly the same range.
